Lonely Pastors?

Pastors are in a very difficult situation. They are usually open, warm and interactive in public but isolated and lonely everywhere else. Few pastors have fun, relaxed, open and supportive friendships outside their churches and it is very difficult to find such relationships in the church.

That is one reason I started the weekly golf games for pastors and leaders. It is a place where we all can find new friends and have some relaxed fun without having to "keep our masks up" so others do not see who we really are.

A few posts ago I shared Lifeway Resources' survey results about how over 1300 Southern Baptist Pastors were fired last year. The top reasons were a lack of good relationships. Poor social skills, conflicts with others and poor leadership skills predominated in the survey. No wonder most pastors are lonely. Again, we play golf together and it builds our network of safe people with whom we can talk.
