Tipping Point

It is no use to discuss or debate the science behind the "Sky is falling" fears of global warming, the war is over. The global warmest hysteria is accepted as fact by most young people because the media that most affects them has been washing their little brains with this stuff for the past couple of decades.

Our grand daughter was with us this week and we love having her around. She is, however, a brainwashed fanatic about global warming. She has bought into the notion notion that we humans are destroying the earth.

Here is the rest of the story. Karen and the two grand kids returned from the condo pool. The water bottles they took with them were empty so Karen threw them into the trash can.

Upon seeing this, Lily, age six, began to scream, "Grandma! You can't do that. You can't throw that bottle into the trash. It will kill the rain forests. You have to recycle it and save the rain forest."

It should be known to all that Lily has no idea about what is happening to the rain forest or even where it is. Nor does she understand how recycling a bottle would save it. But she was hysterical.

I grew up in similar hysteria about religious things. Having cards in the house or working on Sunday or drinking a beer would in bring us horrible, terrible results. We were driven by fear and anxiety. We had rigid, unreasonable ideas that could not be debated, or even proven but they must be obeyed. If they were not obeyed with unblinking submission, Jesus would come back and the world would end.

The new Fundamentalists are also driven by irrational fears. They have rigidly held, inviolable and non debatable ideas. Global warming cannot be proven nor can the influence of humans be known. The scientific research is open to many interpretations and yet it is political suicide to ask questions. And, according to the Fundamentalist Evangelist Albert Gore, Jr., the world will end soon if we fail to recycle.

And, like the current crop of Fighting Fundamentalists, we had charts, books and films to scare the daylights out of sceptics. Just watch the cartoons. They are little more than propaganda for the New Age Climate Fundamentalists. In one of them, Pocahontas was shown as a tree hugging New Ager when in fact she was a Christian.

So, we might as well quit fighting because when the preschoolers start acting hysterically about recycling the game is over.
